Dan Olszewski + Jorge Amaral
Guitarist Dan Olszewski is committed to being an adaptive teacher to his students, regardless of age or experience level. His classes are dynamic and tailored to each group, treating the class space as the arena whereby passion can be focused and directed into musical expression. Mr. Olszewski is an experienced performer and teacher, and is comfortable in a multitude of genres, including Classical, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Blues, and Country. Mr. Olsweski holds a Masters Degree in music performance from the University of South Carolina and a Performance Certificate (post-graduate) from the University of Denver. In addition to his musical expertise, Mr. Olszewski is an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, a body-organization method aimed at releasing tension, alleviating postural rigidity, and increasing awareness of one's musculoskeletal system. His expertise in the Alexander Technique informs his guitar instruction, emphasizing the connection between mind and body when studying a musical instrument.
Guitarist Jorge Amaral is held in high regard as performer and educator. He was the first prize winner of the 29th Fernando Sor competition in Rome, Italy, and has since gone on to a successful career as a solo and duo performer alongside his wife, Mia Pomerantz Amaral. Together, they formed Duo Amaral, and perform regularly both nationally and internationally. Their tours have taken them to Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Panama, Mexico, Israel, and around the United States. As a teacher, Mr. Amaral has guided students to become top prizewinners in competitions such as the Guitar Foundation of America, the Beatty Competition, and several former students have performed at Carnegie Hall. Mr. Amaral holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, and a Master of Music Degree from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
